About VU2VDK
Vadakara Ham Radio Club (VU2VDK) is a collective of licensed Amateur Radio Operators (Hams) and enthusiasts from the Malabar region of Kerala. The club operates under the guidance of the Amateur Radio & Disaster Communication Society (ARDCS), with a mission to promote radio communication, public service, and technical learning.
Amateur Radio, often called Ham Radio, is a global hobby and public service that brings people together to explore communication, electronics, and emergency preparedness. Licensed operators experiment with antennas, satellites, and radio propagation across the world — without relying on the internet or cell networks.
It plays a critical role during disasters, enabling communication when conventional systems fail. Hams worldwide volunteer to support emergency agencies and disaster recovery operations.
Vadakara, located in northern Kozhikode district, is known for its vibrant coastal culture, historic trading legacy, and the picturesque Sandbanks where the Moorad River meets the Arabian Sea.
This natural beauty inspired our club’s famous Sandbanks Evening Net — a nightly on-air meet held on the VU2EDJ repeater, where operators check in, exchange reports, and strengthen community ties.
The Amateur Radio & Disaster Communication Society (ARDCS) is a non-profit organization committed to developing communication resilience in Kerala and beyond. ARDCS provides training, coordinates emergency radio networks, and supports clubs like VU2VDK in promoting technical education and public-service-oriented communication.
Through awareness programs, mock drills, and hands-on workshops, ARDCS ensures that amateur radio remains a dependable communication lifeline during emergencies and natural disasters.
VU2VDK brings together radio operators, experimenters, students, and professionals united by a shared passion for wireless communication and service. We collaborate on technical projects, organize local meets, and actively participate in contests and field activities that foster innovation and friendship.
Whether you’re an aspiring ham or a seasoned operator, you’re welcome to connect with us, participate in our nets, and be part of a growing network that celebrates radio, community, and learning.
